Wild Wales

Studio concept · Card & packaging design

A six-card wildlife collection looking at how a visitor attraction could turn its subject into a keepsake. AI-assisted woodcut-style illustrations, typeset field notes and a consistent layout carry across every card face, the shared back and the box artwork. This is a studio concept, not a client commission or a manufactured product.

My roleConcept, art direction, AI-assisted illustration, card layouts and packaging study

The six complete Wild Wales card faces: red kite, puffin, otter, red squirrel, grey seal and hedgehog.

From the valley to the coast

Each species sits inside a shared frame, so the six feel like one collection. The common name comes first, then the scientific name, illustration, field note and identifying features. Every card has its own habitat colour, with no invented game stats or conservation rankings.

Complete Red kite card, with a fork-tailed bird above a Welsh valley.
Red kite · A scavenger identified by its angled wings, pale underwing patches and forked tail.
Complete Puffin card, with the bird on a sea-thrift-covered cliff.
Puffin · Returns to coastal colonies to breed, then spends the winter at sea.

The field notes

Short notes give the illustration room while still leaving something for the reader to notice. I checked species names and field-note facts against The Wildlife Trusts' species guides. The illustrations are interpretations, not wildlife photographs, and no conservation organisation commissioned or endorsed this concept.

Complete Otter card, showing an otter beside a wooded river.
Otter · Dense fur and webbed feet suit a life in the water.
Complete Red squirrel card, with a tuft-eared squirrel holding a pine cone.
Red squirrel · Stores food for leaner times rather than hibernating.

Every face gets the same care

All six faces carry the complete artwork and readable type. There's no cut-down web version. The portfolio piece and the packaging study are exports from those same master files.

Complete Grey seal card, showing a mottled seal resting beside the sea.
Grey seal · Hunts fish at sea and comes ashore to rest. Give resting seals plenty of space.
Complete Hedgehog card, with a hedgehog foraging below a hedge at dusk.
Hedgehog · Forages after dusk for beetles, worms and other invertebrates.

A set ready to show

The matching back and box study make the intended product clear. The artwork masters include a nominal bleed area, but this isn't a printer-approved production pack. Stock, finishes, final dielines, colour management and a physical proof would all need to be agreed with the chosen printer before manufacture.

Packaging study using the actual finished card and box artwork. A design mockup, not a product photograph.
Wild Wales shared card back with its title over a muted woodcut-style Welsh valley illustration.
One shared back, carrying the collection identity across all six cards.
